Herman Miller introduced the Eames Aluminium Group in 1958 as Charles and Ray Eames’ response to the need for high-quality indoor-outdoor furniture. It soon moved inside exclusively. In 2008, Herman Miller celebrated the chair that 50 years ago came in from the cold. This design remains a classic of style and comfort.

The Aluminium Group seat pads have layered construction with fabric or leather upholstery; Soft Pad models add 50mm thick foam cushions for comfort and a different look. The chairs’ clean trim lines make them appropriate for all kinds of places, from contemporary homes to elegant offices.

With one-piece, curved aluminium side ribs and an aluminium base, the chair is strong, yet lightweight and easy to move.

Description

Herman Miller began making the Aluminum Group chairs in 1958. In 1969, the Eameses extended the original design by adding plush, individually upholstered cushions. They named these the Soft Pad chairs. The chairs’ simple lines, innovative use of materials, and suspension comfort have kept them among the most popular seating choices for both offices and homes for more than 50 years.
